“The Mediumship of Spirit” is an unusual collaboration between the deceased psychic researcher and teacher William Alexander Oribello and a gifted medium named Aurora Thyme. In his time on earth, Oribello founded the Mystic Light Society and wrote seminal metaphysical books like “Candle Burning With The Psalms” and “Godspells.” All of Oribello’s titles were published by Inner Light Publications, which is also responsible for “The Mediumship of Spirit.”
The message sent from Oribello to Thyme is an easily accessible one, and it begins with a chapter on vibrations, in the spiritual sense of the word. One is reminded of why this subject matter is often aptly called “the occult sciences,” as Oribello/Thyme’s scholary opening argument on the reality of different spiritual vibrations demonstrates. “Life–The Great Mystery,” as the chapter is called, offers fascinating scientific validation of many supposedly “superstitious beliefs” regarding how the universe is constructed on an atomic level. The authors also grapple with the concept of the speed of light, which may not be as ironclad as we imagine, but instead subject to variation in different parts of the universe. Can we learn to travel millions of miles in the blink of an eye, much faster than the outer limit of 186,000 miles per second modern physics currently allows for?
Another chapter discusses the positive psychic effects to be gained from a proper diet of fresh fruit and vegetables and abstinence from meat, processed foods and tobacco. While this is hardly groundbreaking stuff, it does at least serve to remind us that food has a strong spiritual component that goes far beyond just nourishing the body. The right foods can also nourish the soul and lead to a genuine inner peace right here on earth.
The chapters on the hard science aspects of the metaphysical are interspersed with shorter chapters, more easily recognizable as being channeled directly from Oribello, in which his spirit struggles with the transition from this life to the next. Even for one as enlightened as Oribello, there are challenges to overcome, such as pangs of doubt and guilt and an unwillingness to leave the physical plane behind. These sections give us a more poetic take on the mystic, and one can easily empathize with the pain involved, as well as the eventual triumph of the spirit accepting that now is the time to move on.
One of the most interesting sections of the book takes up the subject of language and its effect on both the conscious and unconscious mind. According to Oribello/Thyme, a simple change in attitude can work wonders, a sort of New Age take on “the power of positive thinking.” The key is to understand that the meaning of the words we use inside of ourselves to describe reality exert a strong power over us. Negative messages like “I’m too fat, too slow, too stupid,” have a pronounced debilitating effect on our lives, leading us to truly believe the bad press we give ourselves and making positive change almost impossible.
But introducing a more positive, loving vocabulary into our embattled minds has a wonderfully liberating effect, and can allow us to attain our deepest desires when properly harnessed. It’s difficult to express the authors’ overall concept in a short review, but the chapter on the power of words and how the mind processes them is worth the price of the book by itself.
Other subjects, like asking for and receiving miracles from the heavenly plane and achieving near immortality through proper diet and living right spiritually and ethically help to round out this wonderfully concise and instructive book. If you’re new to the occult sciences or a past master looking for something new to read, “The Mediumship of Spirit” can take you places you’ve never been to before.
